The ultimate multi-sport information system

HAC 4 INFORMATION PACK

The CICLOControl HAC4 is an advanced sports information system, produced by CICLOSPORT, which provides a wide range of sports information to runners, cyclists, duathletes, triathletes, walkers, hikers, hillwalkers, fell runners, orienteers, skaters, climbers, skiers, snowboarders or indeed anyone interested in keeping fit. The HAC4 is invaluable to those wishing to record and analyse their training and competition performances or who participate in adventure holidays as 64 hours of data can be stored and recalled later using the PC Interface and software (HACTRONIC). The HAC4 is waterproof and can be used safely in water (up to 6ft deep) or in the shower. It is available in 3 colours, CLASSIC, CLEAR or TITANIUM. All 3 HAC4s are made from durable plastic with Velcro fastening straps which allow the HAC4 to be worn as a watch during the day and during running, skiing or gym work etc and removed for cycling when the HAC4 is clipped into a handlebar mount. Triathletes and duathletes can quickly remove the HAC4 and attach it to the velcro wrist strap at the run/bike or bike/run transitions.

The HAC4 has a total of 57 functions and provides sportsmen and sportswomen with vital information to add to their sporting experiences. Once initial data, such as the total weight of bike and rider, tyre circumference, date/time/month, heart rate training zones, interval training times and starting altitude is entered and stored, the HAC4 is ready to use.

DISPLAYS

The dual display of the HAC4 face shows the following selected functions whilst clipped into the handlebar mount and therefore in bike mode:

UPPER DISPLAY (scrolling through the upper display functions is carried out by pressing the top right button)

Speed (cycling or skiing speed) (km/hr)

 Heart Rate (beats per min)

 Gradient (ascent or descent) (%)*

Rate of ascent or descent (m/min)

 Air Temperature (C)

* The Gradient function is not available when the HAC4 is removed from the handlebar mount.

Sub functions of all the above main functions (for example, average speed and maximum speed) are selected by scrolling with the top left button.

LOWER DISPLAY (scrolling through the lower display functions is carried out by pressing the bottom right button) -

 Time (clock) 24 hr clock

 Stopwatch

Countdown for interval training sessions (2 countdown times can be set)

 Time Trial Comparison*

Cadence (only when optional cadence kit is fitted)

 Riding time *

 Altitude (m)

 Heart Rate (beats per minute)

 Power output (watts)*

 Distance covered (km)*

* The Time-Trial comparison, Riding time, Power Output and Distance Covered functions are not available when the HAC4 is removed from the handlebar mount.

Sub functions of all the above main functions (for example, maximum and minimum altitude) are selected by pressing the bottom left button.

Heart Rate Graphics Bar - In addition to the upper and lower displays, a graphical bar (displayed as boxes) running from left to right, between the upper and lower displays, gives an indication of the athletes actual pulse compared with the stored heart rate training zone. If the cyclist/athlete is operating below the lower stored heart rate, nothing is displayed. If the heart rate is at or above the upper stored level, all boxes will be displayed. A proportional number of boxes will be displayed if the heart rate is within the pre selected heart rate zone.

Data Storage - At the start of a run, bike ride or ski run or any other training session or race, all data can be stored by pressing (and then releasing) the top left and bottom left buttons simultaneously. Two peaks (small black triangles) on the bottom left of the display will then start flashing indicating that recording is in progress. At the end of the training session or race, pressing the top and lower left buttons again will stop the recording of data. All information relating to that session (whether it was a 1 min or 64 hour session) can be recalled and/or downloaded onto a PC (by using the HACTRONIC). In addition, all previous sessions (up to a total of 64 hours) are downloaded.

PC Interface and Software (HACTRONIC) - By using the optional PC interface and software (called the HACTRONIC), the following information can be downloaded onto a PC and displayed in tabular or graphical form:

 Time

 Distance

 Altitude

 Gradient

 Heart Rate

 Speed

 Power

 Cadence

 Temperature

The total sample capacity = 64 (hours) x 60 (mins) x 3 (sampling rate per min) x 9 (total functions recorded) = 103,680 data items.

The heart rate zone is also displayed as a yellow band on the heart rate graph. If required, specific parts of the session can be selected and all relevant data calculated for that period only. When displaying the graphs, the maximum, average and minimum values for the whole training session or race are displayed on the right hand side of the screen. The graphs and tables can be printed if required and there are areas where notes can be written giving details of the ride, run or session. Markers (in the form of small red flags) can be inserted on the graphs to give information such as a particular point on the ride or run (eg top of Col de Tourmalet). Once downloaded, the data can be stored on a PC for viewing at any time in the future or e-mailed to a personal trainer or friend for analysis or comparison. Results of the same ride/run etc can be compared by dragging and dropping graphical displays onto an adjacent window.

Interval Training The HAC4 can be used for interval training by entering two countdown periods (and also two heart rate training zones). For example, if you wish to complete an interval training session of 6 x 3 mins followed by a 4 min recovery jog, then Countdown 1 is set to 3 mins and Countdown 2 to 4 mins. At the changeover between countdown 1 and 2, the HAC4 will beep.

Time Trial Comparison - Another very useful function for the dedicated cyclist who races or who wishes to race against the clock during training is the Time-Trial Comparison where a previous time for a set course can be recalled and an update given during the current Time Trial. The comparison starts immediately and within a few seconds, the cyclist will know if a PB is on the cards! The comparison display will show whether the cyclist is faster or slower than the previous attempt by showing a (minus) time in mins and secs (to the nearest second) if slower than before or a time, with no sign displayed, if faster.

Skiing Speed The HAC4 utilises the altimeter and time functions to calculate skiing speed by calculating the relationship between the decrease in altitude and time resulting in a skiing speed with + or - 10% accuracy. The HAC4 is worn on the wrist when skiing/snowboarding.

Auto Stop/Start - The HAC4 senses that the cyclist has stopped and automatically pauses the timekeeping until movement is sensed again. The HACTRONIC graphs allow the pauses to be displayed or hidden for example, on a long ride when you stop for a break, as long as the memory function is still running, you are able to see on the graphs the time duration of the stop.

Stopwatch The stopwatch can be started and stopped at any time and can store up to 64 split times.

Watchstrap The HAC4 can be worn on the wrist by using the supplied Velcro strap or clipped into the handlebar mount (strap removed). The strap can be fitted in less than 5 seconds making it ideal for the triathlete/duathlete in transitions between bike and run.

Batteries there are 4 batteries in the HAC4 system. One is in the HAC4 computer (a CR2032), one in the fork transmitter (a LRV08), one in the handlebar mount (CR2032) receiver and one in the heart rate chest transmitter (CR2032). Despite the HAC4 computers vast functionality, the battery in the HAC4 itself can be expected to last one year. On changing the battery, all stored data is retained. Before leaving for a winters training camp or riding a long tour lasting a few days or weeks and the battery has been in the HAC4 and used frequently, it is advisable to change the battery before the trip to prevent disappointing loss of data. The remaining 3 batteries last much longer than 1 year and could last well over 2 years. All 4 batteries can be changed by the owner although the HAC4 battery is best left to a jeweller.
