Manufactured by Siemens
More Information:
The innovative and unique Radar
Distance System (RDS) from CICLOSPORT is the world's first device
for the sporting enthusiast which enables speed, distance and pace
to be acuratley measured and displayed using Doppler radar. The
RDS uses a new type of patented process, manufactured by SIEMANS,
based on Dopplee Radar which uses a 24GHz radar transmission to
measure speed and distance precisely in all sports involving
movement such as walking, cycling, running, skiing etc. The RDS is
approximately 6x6x3 cm and weighs only 65gm (including the
battery.) The RDS is able to work in conjunction with CICLOSPORT'S
new CP41 digital heart rate monitor where the information is
transmitted from the RDS to the CP41 using CICLOBlue-Eye
technology. Speed is calculated by measuring the Doppler shift of
the returned signal (similar to the operation of a radar speed
gun). Unlike other systems which rely on a GPS signal being
available (which is not always guaranteed) the RDS is reliable
under all conditions.
ISPO Award Winner - in recognition of
its prowess as a superb, innovative information system, the RDS
won the ISPO Outdoor Award at the International Sports Expo in
Germany 2002.
Warranty - the RDS, as with all
CICLOSPORT products, is extremely reliable and is guaranteed for 3
years. (This does not include the battery.)
Fitting the RDS - The RDS can be
either clipped on to a waistband or placed in the supplied bag
(with belt loops) and fitted to a belt. The RDS is normally worn
at the front of the body, but if used in conjunction with the
CICLOSPORT CP41 it can be worn at the back.
Calibration - The RDS can be
calibrated by running, walking or cycling 1 km and adjusting the
display distance accordingly.
Speed Zones - There are 4 speed zones
indicated by small bars on the right-hand side of the display as
follows:
Zone 1 : 1-12 km/h (0.6 - 7.45 mph) - Walking
Zone 2 : 2-25 km/h (1.24-15.5 mph) - running
Zone 3 : 4-10 km/h (2.5 - 30 mph) - Roller blading/ skating
Zone 4 : 8-100 km/h (5 - 62 mph) - High speed/ skiing
Unit of measurement - the RDS can be
set to read in km or miles.
Operating Buttons - The RDS has 3
buttons for operation:
Settings - The setting mode is
selected by pressing the MODE button for 3 seconds whilst in the
relevant display as follows:
- Daily and total distance reading -
set from the DIST display
- Correction factor (calibration) -
set from the AV display
- Units of measurement - set from the
TM display
- Unit of distance - km or miles
- Speed or pace - kmh/mph
(depending on the first selection) or min/km or min/mile.
- Clock - set from the clock display
- 12 or 24 hour
- Actual time
Settings are made by operating the
INFO (plus) and MODE (minus) buttons.
Displays - the RDS has display as
follows:
- Upper Display - Speed or pace
- Lower Display:
- Average speed
- Session time
- Clock (time of day)
- Auto Scroll displaying in turn
- Distance
- Average speed or pace
(depending on which was selected for display)
- Training time
- Time of day
- Battery Level - shown in the top
left corner
- Speed Zone Indicators - right hand
side of display
RDS Functions
The main functions are selected by
pressing the MODE button. The relevant sub-functions are selected
by operating the INFO button. The RDS functions are as follows:
Current Speed - the top display shows
current speed in kmh or mph (as selected) or pace (min/km or
min/mile). Range of values are:
- Speed: 0-99.9 kmh (0 - 62.4 mph).
- Pace : 0:01 - 48:00 min/mi.
If --:-- is displayed, the
current speed is above 62.4 mph.
Pace Indicator (Speed Control) - The
arrows on the the left side of the display show whether the pace
is faster or slower than the current average speed. An upwards
pointing arrow is shown if you are faster , downwards arrow for
slower. If both arrows are shown, current speed is within + or -
0.1 kmh or mph of current average speed.
Average Speed - The bottom display
shows current speed.
Maximum Speed - The maximum speed is
called up as a sub-function of average speed and shows the highest
speed achieved since the last reset.
Current Pace - The bottom display
shows the pace in min/km or
min/mile.
Range of values are 0.01 - 30.00 min/km 0r 0.01 - 48.00 min/mile.
Speed Zone - One of the 4 vertical
bars to the right the display shows the pre-selected speed zone.
The RDS will automatically switch from one zone to the next as
required. (Note that the battery consumption varies with each
zone. Zone 1 uses least power, zone 4 the most.)
Distance - The distance travelled
since the last reset is shown in the top display. This figure also
includes any preset distances - for example. if 2 sessions were
completed on the same day and you wish the grand total of those
sessions to be displayed on the day, the first session's distance
can be preset into the daily distance setting. the range of values
is 0 - 999.99 km (0 - 624.99 miles).
Distance Sub-Function - the distance
sub-function shows the grand total of distance travelled. the
range of values is 0 - 99999 km or 0 - 62499 miles.
Training Time - the time spent moving
(when the speed displayed was greater than zero) is shown. the
range of values is 0 - 999.59 hours.
Training Time sub-function - displays
the total training time when the speed was greater than zero. the
range of values is 0 - 999.59 hours.
Clock time - displays the time of day
(12 or 24 hour clock)
Auto Scroll - displays the following
values in 3-secong intervals:
- Distance Travelled
- Average speed
- Training time
- Time of day
Controls
Operating Buttons - The RDS has 3
buttons for operation:
Switching On on Off - The RDS sensor
is switched on or off by pressing the ZONE button for 3 seconds.
If no speed is detected for 10 minutes, the sensor automatically
switches itself off and the RDS shows the time of day. (Note: to
save power, the sensor should be switched off manually after use).
Resetting daily values - the daily
values are reset (set to zero) by pressing the INFO and MODE
buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds (normally done at the start
of a session).
Resetting total values - the total
values are reset by pressing all 3 buttons (INFO, ZONE and MODE)
simultaneously for 3 seconds.
Speed Zone Selection - The ZONE button
is pressed briefly to move between the 4 speed zones (indicated by
the bars on the right side of the display).
Technical Data
- Water resistant (the RDS should not
be immersed in water)
- Temp operating range: 0 - 50
degress C.
- Radar frequency - 24GHz
- Transmission frequency for data
transmission to CP41 : 868 MHz
- Battery: 1.5V Standard Micro AAA or
1.2V Micro AAA.
- Battery Life (assuming battery with
1100 mAh):
- Zone 1 - 50 hours
- Zone 2 - 45 hours
- Zone 3 - 40 hours
- Zone 4 - 35 hours
- The battery can easily be changed
by the user - if it takes longer than 20 seconds to change the
battery, the clock time will need to be reset.
Summary
The Innovative CICLOSPORT Radar
